Waratah Falls

Updated: May 3

Beautiful Waratah Falls in the centre of Waratah.

Waratah Falls

Waratah Falls is a beautiful waterfall in the middle of the town of Waratah.

The Waratah River forms a large lake in the town centre and then plunges over the top of a basalt cliff to form Waratah Falls.

One hundred years ago, water races and tunnels fed water to the falls and diverted it to a nearby power station to produce hydropower. Walking around Waratah today, you can still see some of these.

There are two places to view the falls, and the most accessible is from the viewing area on Main Street opposite the Bischoff Hotel.

In the background, you can see Waratah Falls, Waratah Lake and the charming township.

There is also a track down to the base of Waratah Falls, which starts on Anne Street and descends for about 400 metres.

From here, you can see the rocky base of the falls and look up and watch the water rushing over the cliff.

Directions to Waratah Falls

Waratah Falls are approximately 60 kilometres from Burnie. From Burnie, head south on Mount Street towards Ladbrooke Street for 4.7 kilometres.

Then turn right onto the Ridgley Highway (B18) and follow this for 50 kilometres. Turn right onto the Murchison Highway (A10), then continue onto Waratah Road (B23). Follow the Waratah Road for 6.9 kilometres, and you will arrive in Waratah.
