Waratah - Tasmania
On the edge of the Tarkine rainforest, Waratah is a historic small town built around the lake, which flows into a stunning waterfall right in the middle of town. On the outskirts of town is Mt Bischoff, once the richest tin mine in the southern hemisphere, until its closure in 1947.
This was the first town in Australia to have electric streetlights in 1886. You can learn more about Waratah’s pioneering past and mining history along “The Town of Tin Walk”, The Museum and the Kenworthy Stamper Mill.
Waratah is located 106 kilometres from Devonport and 206 kilometres from Launceston.

Whilst walking around Waratah you will see a lot of relics from their rich mining history, including the Dudley Kennedy Waterwheel and the Kenworthy's Stamper Mill.
If you walk around the lake at dawn or dusk, you may be lucky enough to see a platypus.

Waratah Falls
Waratah Falls is a fantastic waterfall located in the middle of Waratah. Over 100 years ago, water races fed water to the falls and then diverted it to a nearby power station to produce hydropower. Today you can view them from the park or Bischoff Hotel.
Philosopher Falls
Philosopher Falls is a stunning two-tiered waterfall on the Arthur River near Waratah. Surrounded by dense, green rainforest, it drops sharply into the steep, fern-covered gorge below. An easy 3-kilometre return hike that takes about an hour.
