Venus Baths

Updated: Jul 7

Venus Baths

The Venus Baths are beautiful natural rock pools formed by Stony Creek flowing along a sandstone shelf. They are near the Botanic Gardens in Halls Gap in The Grampians National Park. It's a lovely leisurely walk.

The Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park is 260 kilometres west of Melbourne and has fantastic hiking trails, beautiful waterfalls, superb lookouts and a large variety of birds and wildlife.

The Grampians are five stunning sandstone ridges that run north to south. On the eastern side, they have steep and rugged slopes, while on the west side, they have gentler slopes.

The Walk - 2.3-kilometre circuit - 1 Hour - Easy

The walk to the Venus Baths starts at the Halls Gap Botanic Gardens. Wander through the lovely gardens and out the back gate to the start of the track. The well-maintained track meanders along Stony Creek, under shady trees and past impressive sandstone cliffs.

When you see the footbridge on your left, continue a little further, and you will reach the Venus Baths. The Venus Baths are a series of shallow waterholes in the sandstone rocks in a wide sandstone canyon. It is a lovely spot for a dip in the warmer months or to relax on the rocks and enjoy this wonderful area.

Then, wander back and over the footbridge to continue the circuit walk on the other side of the creek. This track has several steps and rocky sections to negotiate. This side of the track ends at the Caravan Park in Halls Gap, and you can cross over the bridge back to the Botanic Gardens.
