The Otways Top 10 Things to Do
The Otway Ranges have amazing rainforests with towering trees, stunning waterfalls and lush ferns. Walk through the treetops at the Otway Fly Tree Top Walk, enjoy lovely rainforest walks at Maits Rest and Melba Gully, and view the historic lighthouse at Cape Otway.
There is also the opportunity to see a Koala in the wild, visit awe-inspiring waterfalls and wander along terrific walking tracks. There are many things to do in The Otways; here are our favourite top 10.
The Otway Fly Treetop Adventures is located in the Otway Ranges. The Treetop Walk is a two-kilometre walk through the rainforest and along the steel walkway under the treetop canopy, and it takes about an hour.
Hopetoun Falls in The Great Otway National Park is a lovely 30-metre waterfall in a beautiful fern-filled gully along the Aire River. You can see the top of the falls at the lookout a few metres from the carpark.
Melba Gully is one of the wettest places in Victoria. The dense, cool rainforest has stunning Myrtle Beech, Blackwood, and tree ferns, as well as a moss-covered forest floor. It is home to a variety of wildlife and birds.
Triplet Falls is a lovely three-segment waterfall in The Great Otway National Park. It is in a beautiful fern-filled gully along Youngs Creek, surrounded by towering mountain ash and myrtle beech forest.
Spot a Koala
The Great Otway National Park is abundant with wildlife and native birds. You can try your luck spotting a Koala in the wild at Maits Rest Rainforest Walk, Kennett River, and Cape Otway National Park.
Erskine Falls is one of the most popular waterfalls in the Otways. This 30-metre waterfall plunges into a rock pool. You can view it from two platforms, one at the top and one at the waterfall's base.
Built in 1848, the Cape Otway Lightstation is the oldest surviving lighthouse in mainland Australia. It is also known as the 'Beacon of Hope' and sits atop the towering sea cliffs 90 metres above the Bass Straight.
The Redwoods in The Great Otway National Park are stunning 60-metre-high trees in a beautiful fern-filled gully along the Aire River. It is an enchanting place to wander, breathe the fresh air and relax.
Maits Rest Rainforest is an ancient cool-climate rainforest with towering Myrtle Beech trees, stunning tree ferns and a moss-covered forest floor. It is home to a variety of wildlife and more than 40 species of birds.
Beauchamp Falls in Great Otway National Park is a 25-metre waterfall in a fern-filled gully along Dappeler Creek. From the lookout, you can see the top of the falls, and you can also go to the base.
