St Columba Falls

Updated: May 5

St Columba Falls

St Columba Falls is one of Tasmania’s tallest permanent waterfalls, with the water from the George River plunging 90 metres over the rocky granite ledges. It is a wonderful waterfall to visit after good rains in the area.

It is located in the Columba Falls State Reserve at Pyengana, approximately 25 kilometres west of St Helens on Tasmania's East Coast.

The St Columba Falls walk is one of the 60 Great Short Walks

of Tasmania

The Walk - 1.2 Kilometres Return - 30 Minutes - Grade 2

The walk to St Columba Falls starts at the Carpark, and you can see a glimpse of this impressive waterfall from the carpark. But for the best views, there is a viewing platform at the base of the falls.

Along the undulating walk down to the viewing platform, you will wander through the beautiful rainforest with tree ferns and myrtle and beech trees. Look carefully along the track, and you will see a variety of interesting and colourful fungi.

Just before you reach the viewing platform, you will cross a bridge over the rive, which offers a lovely view of the water cascading over the rocks. After the bridge, a tree grows over the path (watch your head if you are tall!).)

You then reach the viewing platform, which offers a fantastic view of St Columba Falls. Walking back along the same path is a moderate uphill walk.

There are a lot of interesting fungi along the track; keep a close eye out to spot them.
