Nelson Falls
Nelson Falls is a stunning waterfall along the Lyell Highway in the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park, approximately 30 kilometres from Queenstown. It is surrounded by lush green rainforests.
The water cascades 30 metres down the tiered black rocks into the Nelson River below. The waterfall is surrounded by dense rainforest and flows all year round, but it is genuinely spectacular after heavy rainfall.
The Nelson Falls walk is one of the 60 Great Short Walks
of Tasmania
The Walk - 1.4 Kilometres Return, 20 Minutes, Grade 1
The track to Nelson Falls is nice and flat, with long sections of wooden boardwalk; it is suitable for wheelchairs with assistance.
Wander along the track as it meanders beside the Nelson River through the beautiful forest with moss-covered myrtle and sassafras trees.
At the end of the walking track is a large platform with a beautiful view of stunning Nelson Falls.
Along the walking track, several information signs explain how the habitat has evolved and how many of the plants unique to this part of Tasmania are ancient species that have survived due to the cool, temperate climate.
