Montana Falls

The Wonderful Montana Falls.

Montana Falls

Montana Falls is a broad but not very high waterfall on Western Creek. There is a walking track from Long Ridge Regional Reserve on Leonards Road in Montana. (near Deloraine in northern Tasmania). It is an approximately 1.8-kilometre (return) hike to Montana Falls.

It is an incredible waterfall after recent rain when the water rushes over the broad rock face and flows down the river.

There is also a series of cascades further down the river that can be seen from the banks further along the track.

Walking Track 1.8 Kilometres - 1.5 Hours - Grade 3

From the parking area, you will see a sign to Montana Falls. Walk along the track and veer left at the first set of orange markers. The path here is narrow but clear as it winds through the low bracken. After the next set of orange markers, the track begins its gentle descent through the forest of Banksia, Gum, and Blackwood.

After about 15-20 minutes of walking, you will reach the falls, and timber steps will lead you down to the base.

You can continue up the track and see a series of small cascades called the Montana Cascades.

Do not cross over the creek at Montana Falls, as the other side is private property.

Directions to Montana Falls:

From Deloraine, head along the B12 towards Mole Creek; after approximately 5 kilometres, turn left into Montana Road. Continue for another 4 kilometres, passing 41 degrees South Salmon farm, and turn left into Leonards Rd.
