Monarto Safari Park ~ South Australia
The Monarto Safari Park in South Australia spans over 1500 hectares and is one of the largest open-range zoos in the world. It is open every day from 9.30 am to 5.00 pm, with the last bus leaving the visitor centre at 3.00 pm.
The Monarto Safari Park is home to over 500 animals and 50 species of exotic and native mammals, birds and reptiles. We started at the Visitor Centre and caught the free Zu-loop bus to The Waterhole to get up close to the Giraffes and zebras.
We then went to the Outpost to see the inquisitive Meerkats and the Chimpanzees and continued the circuit on the Zu-loop bus to see many other animals along the way.
At the Waterhole, you can wander along the giraffe viewing platform and see these magnificent creatures up close. You will also see Zebra, Nyala, Eland and Ostrich here.
At the Outpost, you can see the meerkats and African porcupines, and a short 10-minute walk away past the fantastic Rhino sculpture called Shandu is the chimpanzee exhibit.
A complete Zu-loop circuit, without getting off at any of the viewing areas, takes an hour and a half. On each bus, there is a fantastic guide who will tell you all about the animals you will see along the way. The bus driver is also very good at spotting the animals and stopping so you can take photographs.
There are also other viewing areas to stop at, informative keeper talks at various locations during the day and special one on one experiences.
