Minnow Falls

Updated: Jul 27

Minnow Falls

Minnow Falls is a fantastic multi-tiered waterfall on the eastern side of Mt Roland. It has three main drops: the 60-metre upper, 80-metre middle, and 50-metre lower falls. The water from the Minnow River flows 227 metres down the mountain in a series of falls, cascades, chutes, and minor drops.

The new Minnow Falls track is the best way to view the lower and middle falls, which are magnificent after heavy rainfall in the area.

Walking Track 4 Kilometres - 3 Hours - Grade 4

From the carpark, follow the logging road track for approximately 200 metres, then follow the sign to the right, and you will come to the river.

Across the river is a log bridge, with chicken wire on the log to help with grip and a wire hand line. Cross the log bridge and continue along the track on the other side.

Follow the undulating track along the river banks for approximately 600 metres, then follow the directional arrows to the right.

From here, the track climbs steeply uphill for approximately one kilometre. The trail is very steep, narrow, and rocky and can be very muddy after rain.

You will then reach a junction in the path; at the junction, you will see where the old Minnow Falls track joins the new one, and there is a path down to the lower Falls viewing area.

Take the steep path down the lower falls, and you will come out to an area with large rocks where you can see Minnow Falls and appreciate the fantastic views.

After enjoying the views, you can head up to the middle falls plateau. It will take approximately 15 minutes to reach this point.

Follow the orange directional track markers up the very steep and rocky descent. There are several sections with ropes to help pull you up the steep sections. You will then come to a ladder you must climb to reach the cave.

Once at the cave (make sure you bring your head torch), climb through the cave, and when you emerge, you will be at the middle falls plateau.

Enjoy the stunning views and the incredible waterfall.

You can continue past the middle falls along the track to the upper falls (30 minutes), but there is no good place to get a good view.

Directions to Minnow Falls

The walking track starts from Bottom Road 1 carpark. Travel southeast on Main Street from Sheffield and turn right into Claude Road (C136). Follow Claude Road for approximately 4.3 kilometres and turn left into Paradise Road (C137).

Follow Paradise Road to the lower Beulah Road turnoff on the left, where Paradise Road becomes Union Bridge Road. Continue on Union Bridge Road (C137) for 1 kilometre and turn right into Belstone Road.

Then follow the yellow Minnow Falls signs to the carpark; some sections of the road are unsealed but are suitable for a 2WD vehicle.
