Lara Wetlands

Lara Wetlands is a bush camp located on a 15,000-acre cattle station, 28 kilometres south of Barcaldine and 78 kilometres north of Blackall in Queensland.

It is open from April to the end of September each year and offers sixteen acres of tranquil unpowered camping spots around the Wetlands with an abundance of birds and wildlife.

From the Landsborough Highway, the access road to Lara Wetlands is 13 kilometres of red sand. This road is driven daily by 2-wheel drives, 4-wheel drives, buses, trucks, caravans and motorhomes; you need to drive to the conditions and obey the speed signs. The all-natural thermal pool is fed by the century-old Artesian Bore, and it’s a great place to relax as the water temperature is a lovely warm 36-40 degrees.

There are 127 species of birds in the wetlands, and it is a bird watcher and photographers’ paradise. You can also enjoy a leisurely paddle across the wetlands in the complimentary kayaks.

Sunrises and sunsets are fantastic, with beautiful reflections from the dead ghost gums across the wetlands.

At night you can enjoy a campfire; there are complimentary fire drums provided, and firewood is available for sale from the office.

Other facilities include a camp kitchen, toilets, showers, drinking water, and a dump point. There is also a children’s playground, cubby house, mini golf and bikes to ride.
