Lake Esperance
Lake Esperance is located in Hartz Mountains National Park, which offers excellent walks and stunning views of small mountain ranges that stretch to the southern coast.
A dolerite range runs through the park's centre, and small glacial lakes, including Lake Esperance, dot the plateau. The diverse vegetation ranges from wet eucalypt forests to alpine heath on the exposed mountains. You will also see stunning Waratahs in December and January.
The walk up Lake Esperance reveals fragile cushion plants, pandani and ancient King Billy pines.

The Walk - 3.5 kilometres Circuit - 1.5 Hours - Grade 3
This track starts at the side of the Hartz Mountains National Park visitor centre. Begin by wandering along the rocky uphill track through the scrubby bushland.
The track then becomes a narrow boardwalk, weaving its way uphill before opening onto the Alpine Plateau. Stop, turn around, and admire the sensational views of the D'Entrecasteaux Channel and the Huon Valley below.
The walk continues along the boardwalk, gradually gaining elevation into the Alpine Highlands.
After 1.5 kilometres, you will see a sign pointing to Lake Esperance. Continue along this boardwalk until you reach the viewing platform at the lake. Once at the lake, there are several seats to sit and enjoy the beautiful views.
After enjoying Lake Esperance, you can continue to Hartz Peak (check weather conditions before heading out) or take the same track back to the Visitor Centre.
Lake Esperance is a tarn ripped into the Alpine Highlands by a glacier. The crystal-clear waters are spectacularly beautiful.
