Kondalilla Falls

Kondalilla Falls

Kondalilla Falls is a stunning waterfall in the Kondallilla National Park in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. We wandered up to see Kondalilla Falls along a 1.5-kilometre track; we also saw Picnic Creek Falls, Obi Valley Lookout, and the Rockpools.

From the carpark, we walked 150 metres to the picnic area, which has a large grassed area, toilets, picnic tables, barbecues, and shelter sheds.

The well-formed walking tracks start from the picnic area, and we meander through the forest to Picnic Creek Falls. There is a small bridge over Picnic Creek with lovely views of the 5-metre-high Picnic Creek falls.

We then continued on the upper path towards the Obi Valley Lookout. Once we reached the lookout, we enjoyed stunning views over the Obi Valley.

From the path up to the Kondalilla Falls lookout, we took a 100-metre detour to see the Rockpools. At the Rockpools, water from the Skene Creek cascades 5 metres into a large swimming hole.

We then wandered back to the track and continued to the Kondalilla Falls lookout, where we admired Kondalilla Falls. This stunning 80-metre waterfall is formed where Skene Creek drops dramatically over the cliff to the rainforest valley below. Kondalilla means ‘rushing waters’ in the local Aboriginal language, and on our visit after recent rains, it certainly was flowing well.

We then headed back along the same track to the carpark. A longer circuit walk of 4.7 kilometres takes you past the base of the falls. Unfortunately, this was closed due to damage to the path during our visit.
