The Fluted Cape
The Fluted Cape is located on Bruny Island. Bruny Island lies off the southeastern coast of Tasmania and is separated from the Tasmanian mainland by the D’Entrecasteaux Channel.
Bruny Island has some of Tasmania's most beautiful natural environments with towering dolerite cliffs, fantastic white sandy beaches and an abundance of sea birds and wildlife.

The Walk - 4 Kilometres Circuit - 2.5 Hours - Grade 4
The Fluted Cape Track in the South Bruny National Park offers beautiful coastal views and unique birds and wildlife; you may even see a White Wallaby.
The walk starts at the beach at Adventure Bay; you walk along the beach and then cross a small tidal stream before entering the forest track.
Follow this undulating track along Adventure Bay's coastline until you reach Grass Point. In a few spots, you can get an incredible view of Adventure Bay.
After walking for approximately 2 kilometres, you will reach Grass Point. This is a lovely grassy area where you will often see Wallabies. At the end is a rocky “gulch” or stream between the coast and Penguin Island.
This is a great spot to watch the huge waves rolling in and read the information plaques describing this region's whaling history.
From Grass Point, the track climbs steeply along tall dolerite cliffs to the summit of Fluted Cape. This part of the track is along sheer cliffs and is rocky, rough and very steep, but it offers the most amazing views. So proceed with caution and occasionally rest to enjoy the beautiful views.
The best spot for photographing the Fluted Cape is along this track. Several clearings along the cliffs offer beautiful views and photographs.
Continue to the top of the Fluted Cape, and you will enjoy beautiful views of Adventure Bay and distant views of the Tasman Peninsula. From the top of the Fluted Cape is a rough downhill track back to Adventure Bay through the forest.
You can walk the Circuit to the top of Fluted Cape and then down to Grassy Point, but I prefer to walk in a clockwise direction as you get to see the fantastic view of the Fluted Cape at the beginning of the walk.
Directions to Bruny Island
The only way to access Bruny Island is by ferry. The ferry departs from Kettering on the mainland, 40 minutes south of Hobart.
The ferry trip takes 20 minutes, and you have excellent views of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel during the ride.
It is a vehicle ferry so that you can drive your car or motorhome onto Bruny Island.
