Fish Falls ~ The Grampians

Fish Falls

Fish Falls in The Grampians is a series of cascading waterfalls that flow 60 metres over the terraced rocks into a deep pool below. It is a great walk to continue after visiting MacKenzie Falls.

Fish Falls is a beautiful waterfall on the banks of the MacKenzie River. It is a lovely undulating walk, and it is not as popular as MacKenzie Falls, so you may enjoy it all to yourself.

This is a lovely area in Spring when all the wildflowers are flowering. You can enjoy two waterfalls, relax, and have a picnic on the spacious picnic grounds.

The Walk from the base of MacKenzie Falls

- 2.8 Kilometres return - 1 Hour - Moderate

We started this walk from the base of MacKenzie Falls; click here for details on getting to the base of MacKenzie Falls. The total walk from the MacKenzie Falls carpark is 4.8 kilometres of return and will take about 2 hours.

Once you have made it down all the steps to the base of MacKenzie Falls, follow the sign near the bottom of the steps to Fish Falls. The rocky track meanders along the edge of the MacKenzie River, passing several small cascades. You then head down the metal steps and across the river.

Then, it is a beautiful meandering walk through the dry forest along the side of the river until you reach the top of Fish Falls. The best vantage point for Fish Falls is further down the steps and along a small path until you get to the second tier of the falls. This is a great vantage point and a lovely spot for taking photos.

You can then continue down the stairs until you reach the rock pool at the base of the waterfalls. After you have enjoyed Fish Falls, head back along the same track.

Alternative walking track:

You can also walk to Fish Falls from the Zumsteins Picnic area; this walk is 4.6 kilometres along the MacKenzie River walk track.

Notes:

Large carpark can get very busy.
