Fern Glade Walk, Tasmania.

Fern Glade

Fernglade Reserve is a lovely recreation and conservation area on the North West Coast of Tasmania.

Located less than 5 kilometres from Burnie, it has various plants, native birds and wildlife. The Emu River runs through the 45 acres of conserved land of Fernglade Reserve.

Fernglade Reserve is open from 7:30am til Dusk.

The Fern Glade walk is one of the 60 Great Short Walks.

The Walk - 1-kilometre Return - 30 Minutes - Grade 1

Wander along the easy, well-maintained track through the tranquil forest as it meanders beside the Emu River. You will see stunning tree ferns, delicate wildflowers and a vast array of fungi.

Many species of native orchids have also been seen along the walking track.

Halfway along the walk, you will look over the river, where you may be lucky enough to spot a platypus.

Pademelons and native birds are also commonly seen on this walk.

A selection of interactive display boards provides a wealth of information about the reserve, its wildlife and much more.

Directions

From Burnie, turn left off the Bass Highway, onto Old Surrey Road, then take the first left onto Fernglade Road.

There are two carparks at Fernglade Reserve: the first is on your right as you cross the bridge and the second is about 200m further along.
