Woodgate ~ Queensland

Woodgate is a lovely, relaxed coastal town 360 kilometres north of Brisbane and 30 kilometres south of Bundaberg.

It has a 16-kilometre stretch of protected beach with calm, clear water and pristine sand perfect for swimming, walking and fishing.

When we stayed in Woodgate, we explored the town and the beach, discovered Theodolite Creek, and wandered along the Banksia walk. We stayed at the NRMA caravan park, which is right on the Esplanade.

We loved Woodgate's pristine beach that stretches for 16 kilometres and provides plenty of space for swimming, walking and relaxing. There are so many peaceful spots to enjoy the golden sands and clear blue waters. You can also relax under the shade of a beach umbrella or take a refreshing dip in the gentle surf.

There are plenty of grassed areas, picnic shelters, seats, BBQs, and toilets along the Esplanade.

The Woodgate Childers Bakery is on the Esplanade and is open from 7.00 am, 7 days a week.  And several days a week there is a fresh fish van here as well.

The Woodgate Beach General Store is right on the Esplanade and is open from 8.00 am seven days a week. You can get coffee, snacks, pizza and takeaway foods. We enjoyed our battered fish and chips for lunch overlooking the beach.

The Woodgate Beach Hotel & Caravan Park is further up the esplanade and open every day from 10.00 am, the town also has a small supermarket.

Theodolite Creek is 4 kilometres north of Woodgate along a sealed road and has a large carpark and boat ramp.

It is a popular spot for fishing, bird watching, swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding and walking. There is a lovely grassed area with picnic tables, BBQs and toilets.

The Banksia Track is a lovely walking track in the Burrum Coast National Park. There is plenty of birdlife and we saw two kookaburras at the start of the track.

You can take a short relaxing 800-metre walk along the boardwalk where you will see the coastal wetlands, paperbark trees and banksias. Or you can do the whole track which is 5.2 kilometres and takes about 2 hours.

We stayed at the NRMA Woodgate Beach Caravan Park which is right on the Esplanade.

The Caravan Park has Cabins, Villas, and powered and un-powered sites all set in a lovely grassy and shady park. There are also two amenities blocks, laundry, camp kitchen and a cafe at the front of the park.
