Pomona ~ Queensland

Pomona is located 135 kilometres north of Brisbane and 22 kilometres from Noosa. It was originally settled in the late 1880s and is now a relaxed country town with cafes, a traditional hotel, a distillery, colourful street art and a bustling weekend market.
On our recent day trip to Pomona, we wandered around looking at the stunning street art and enjoyed a coffee at the Pomona Village Kitchen. We then visited the market, wandered along the heritage trail, and admired the Majestic Theatre.
The community inspired a stunning mural on the IGA building, and each element represents different parts of Pomona as interpreted by ‘This Bird’, a local artist and shop owner in Pomona. There is also another brightly coloured mural on the side of her shop on Reserve Street.
There are many great cafes in Pomona, and we started our day with great coffee at Pomona Village Kitchen.

The Pomona Country Markets are held every Saturday morning from 7 a.m. til 11.30 a.m. in the Stan Topper Park in the centre of town. There are more than 65 stalls with fruit and vegetables, plants, baked goods, coffee and cakes, and homemade arts and crafts.
We wandered along the Pomona Heritage Walk and saw many historic buildings around the town centre. The original Pomona Hotel was built on this site in 1905 and then destroyed by a fire in 1913. The current hotel was built in 1913 and is a lovely traditional hotel with a great outdoor area.
The stunning building in the town centre was originally the ANZ bank, built in 1936; today, it is the Pomona Vet and Pet Spa.
