Mount Barker is the largest town in the Adelaide Hills and is 34 kilometres southeast of Adelaide. Located at the southern end of the Adelaide Hills, Mount Barker is a wonderful place to base yourself to explore the many attractions in the Adelaide Hills.

Surrounded by vineyards and mixed farming this rapidly growing town is surrounded by vineyards and mixed farming and has wonderful historic buildings and all the modern conveniences.

Gawler Street in the centre of town is a charming leafy street with cafes, restaurants, bakeries, boutiques and interesting historic buildings. At the intersection of Gawler Street and Adelaide Road is Auchendarroch House; this stunning building was built in 1860 and was originally the Oakfield Hotel. Today it is used as a wedding venue, restaurant and tavern.

Halfway along the street, you can see the sculpture Prickly 3, which is part of the Adelaide Hills Sculpture Trail.

The Adelaide Hills Farmers Market is open every Saturday morning, with stallholders offering fresh, seasonal, local products. Coffee, chocolates, and homemade bread and sweets are also available.

From the Mount Barker Summit carpark, it is a steep 250-metre walk to the top, where you will be rewarded with stunning views over Mount Barker and the surrounding hills and valleys. On a clear day, it is possible to see Mount Lofty in the north and Lake Alexandrina in the southeast from the 517-metre elevation.
