Explore Mooloolaba

Updated: May 2

Mooloolaba ~ Queensland

Mooloolaba is a popular tourist destination on the Mooloolah River in the heart of the Sunshine Coast. It is located 90 kilometres north of Brisbane and has stunning beaches, a bustling wharf precinct, fantastic restaurants and a relaxed beachside atmosphere.

On our recent visit to Mooloolaba, we started the day exploring the Esplanade and Mooloolaba Main Beach. Then we headed to The Wharf, enjoyed a coffee overlooking the river and visited the Sea Life Aquarium. We then went on an Aquaduck cruise through the canals and finished the day with a lovely sunset at Point Cartwright.

The Esplanade is lined with surf shops, fashion boutiques, trendy cafes and restaurants with alfresco dining areas.

Along the beach, you will find the Loo with a view, with a large deck area that has stunning views over the Mooloolaba Main Beach. There are also shady trees, grassed areas, picnic tables, playgrounds and walking tracks.

Mooloolaba Main Beach is one of the safest beaches on the Sunshine Coast and is patrolled all year round by the Mooloolaba Surf Life Saving Club, which was established in 1922. The beach has a long stretch of white sand, bright blue water and gentle waves as it is protected by Point Cartwright.

We wandered around The Wharf precinct at Mooloolaba alongside the marina; it has a variety of cafes, restaurants, unique shops and boutiques. We enjoyed coffee and cake, overlooking the water and admired the boats.

Sea Life is conveniently located near The Wharf at Mooloolaba and is open seven days a week from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. As you wander through the 80-metre Ocean Tunnel, you'll encounter sharks, giant rays, and vibrant reef fish.

The Atlantis-themed Seahorse Kingdom has fascinating exhibits and over 100 seahorses and seadragons, making it one of the largest seahorse displays in Australia. In their enclosure, the Little Blue Penguins waddle, swim, and play on land and in the water.

The Coastal Wreck section teems with colourful tropical fish and other Australian marine life. Each day, Seal Island offers an entertaining and educational presentation, and then you can go downstairs and see their antics underwater.

Jellyfish Kingdom has a range of jellyfish floating around in the coloured lighting, which is enchanting to watch.

Aquaduck's 1-hour Sunshine Coast Cruise departs from Mooloolaba Wharf on a fun adventure that is suitable for all ages.

Onboard the Aquaduck, a unique amphibious craft, the captain and tour guide provide informative commentary about information about Mooloolaba. We cruised along the Esplanade, enjoying picturesque views of the beach and trendy cafes.

Then, it was off to the boat ramp, where we transitioned seamlessly from land to water. The Aquaduck cruised along the Mooloolah River, passing by luxurious mansions, Steve Irwin's Croc One, and busy fishing trawlers. The Aquaduck cruise offers fun and relaxation, making it the perfect way to explore Mooloolaba's beauty on land and water.

Point Cartwright is a rocky headland at the mouth of the Mooloolah River with walking tracks, rock pools and a lighthouse. We watched the sun setting over Mooloolaba from the rock wall.
