Maldon - Victoria
Maldon is a wonderfully preserved, historic, gold-mining town with a rich history, lovely cafes, galleries, and antique shops. It is Australia's First Notable Town, and as you wander around town, you will see old-fashioned shopfronts, original stone buildings, and charming cottages. It is located 145 kilometres northwest of Melbourne.
Take a ride on the Victorian Goldfields Railway, an authentic steam train that travels between Maldon and Castlemaine.
Enjoy the Historic Town walk, where you will see lovely old churches, significant buildings, hotels, bakeries and more.
You can view the Beehive Chimney, completed in 1863; it is the only one still standing in Victoria.
A short drive out of town is the Mount Tarrengower lookout, with incredible 360-degree views over the town and surrounds.
