Geeveston - Tasmania

Geeveston is a lovely small town nestled amongst the rolling hills of the Huon Valley. It is located 60 kilometres South of Hobart and has an interesting apple-growing and forestry heritage. It is the gateway to the Hartz Mountains National Park and Tahune Adventures.


On the main street are several arts and crafts shops, a lolly shop, cafes, and wonderful hand-carved wooden statues.


The statues, carved by Bernie Tarr, are a tribute to Geeveston’s heritage. They feature prominent locals and historical characters, Including John Geeves, the town's founding father, Simon Burgess, an Olympic rower, a blacksmith, an apple picker, a chemist, and many more.



Heritage Park in the centre of town is great for a barbecue or picnic, with fantastic play equipment, a skate park and a bike track.

Wander along the banks of the Kermandie River on the Geeveston Platypus Walk; there are several viewing areas where you may see a platypus.

Tahune Adventures ~ Tasmania.

The Tahune AirWalk is a walkway elevated 30 metres above the forest floor. The narrow cantilever section juts out 50 metres over the Huon River. From here, you can enjoy stunning views of the confluence of the Huon and Picton Rivers and vistas of the peaks of the World Heritage Area.

It has been shaped by ancient glaciers and is a wonderful place to visit in Tasmania’s remote and rugged southwest wilderness. You will see dolerite mountains, small glacial lakes and waterfalls, and a variety of alpine plants and vegetation.

You can explore the amazing Dolomite cave system, a labyrinth of chambers richly decorated and cleverly lit to highlight these fantastic formations. Newdegate Cave is the largest dolomite tourist cave in Australia.


Duckhole Lake ~ Tasmania.

This delightful tranquil lake is actually a flooded sinkhole. You can discover it in the Southwest National Park, it is part of the extensive regional cave and karst system that includes Hastings Caves. The walk is 4.2 kilometres return and takes 1.5 hours.
