Castlemaine - Victoria
Castlemaine is a former gold mining town, when gold was discovered in 1850, it was the richest alluvial gold field in the world.
Today, it is a bustling city with stunning Georgian architecture, an emerging arts culture, antique markets, lovely gardens, and much more. Castlemaine is located 129 kilometres northwest of Melbourne and 37 kilometres south of Bendigo.
Visit the Mill, a lively artisan precinct home to vintage markets, a microbrewery, a chocolatier, a cheesemaker, a small-batch coffee roaster, and much more.
Take a ride on the Victorian Goldfields Railway, this historic steam train travels between Castlemaine and Maldon.
Or relax in Castlemaine’s Botanical Gardens, one of the oldest regional botanic gardens in Victoria.
