Brunswick Heads NSW

Brunswick Heads ~ New South Wales

Brunswick Heads is a laid back seaside village on the NSW north coast, at the mouth of the Brunswick River. It is located 774 km north of Sydney and 17 kilometres north of Byron Bay.

Whether you're looking to unwind by the river, explore pristine beaches, or indulge in delicious local eats, Brunswick Heads has something for everyone.

When we stayed in Brunswick Heads we wandered around town, visited the Bruns Bakery, saw some street art and explored the rivers and beaches.

Brunswick Heads has a vibrant town centre, filled with cosy cafes, great restaurants and boutique shops.

Wandering through the town, you'll find charming stores selling handmade crafts, antiques, surf wear, and unique homewares.

Located in the heart of town, the Bruns Bakery is famous for its freshly baked pastries, artisan breads, and mouthwatering pies that locals and visitors rave about.

It is open every day and has a huge selection of pies, pastries, cakes, sourdough and great barista-made coffee. There has been a bakery in this building since the 1950s.

There is also some colourful street art around the town centre, on the sides of buildings and in laneways.

The Hotel Brunswick, or Bruns Pub, as it’s called by the locals, is a huge pub overlooking the river that was built in 1942.

Now it is a popular spot for locals and visitors alike with a big beer garden, classic pub meals, cold drinks and live music.

It’s open 7 days a week from 10.00 am to midnight.

The Brunswick Picture House is a small retro theatre that hosts an eclectic range of performances from cabarets and live shows to concerts, and films.

You may even see some little fairy houses as you wander around town.

The Brunswick River meanders through the town, with clear, calm waters perfect for kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing.

At the Boat Harbour you can hire a boat, go on a fishing charter or enjoy a whale watching cruise from May to November.

One of the greatest natural attractions in Brunswick Heads is Simpsons Creek, a beautiful river that runs parallel to the ocean.

Simpson Creek is easily accessible and is a popular spot for swimming, kayaking and relaxing.

You can hire boats and kayaks from Brunswick Buccaneers on Simpson Creek.

From town you can wander across the bridge to two beaches.

Main Beach is 10.5 kilometres long and popular for surfing, swimming and walking.

Torakina beach is a lovely, safe beach at the mouth of the Brunswick River. This small beach is protected by the breakwall and is perfect for a relaxing swim.

You can also walk along the breakwall between the two beaches and watch the waves crashing on the rocks, you may even see dolphins here.
