Drover's Sunset Cruise & Smithy's Outback
Dinner Show
In Longreach, we went on the Drover’s Sunset Cruise with Outback Aussie Tours and then enjoyed Smithy’s Outback Dinner and Show.
The Outback Aussie Tour bus picks you up from your accommodation or caravan park, including the Apex Riverside Park. You then disembark at Smithy’s on the Thomson Riverbank and board the Longreach Explorer, which has amazing views from the open-top deck.
As you meander down the Thompson River, the staff keep you entertained with captivating stories about the river, the birds and wildlife and Indigenous heritage. You also get an up-close view of an aboriginal scar tree and learn about them.
There is a licensed bar on board where you can purchase beer, wine, soft drinks and water, which goes nicely with the complimentary savoury snacks. The boat stops at Sunset Bend, where you can disembark and capture some stunning sunset photographs. We enjoyed the last of the sunset as we cruised back to Smithy’s on the riverbank.
Smithy’s Outback Dinner and Show is set up under the stars, with lovely fairy lights and roaring fires scattered around the tables of six that all face the stage. There is also a bar available for you to purchase beer, wine and soft drinks.
Dinner is delivered to your table by the attentive staff and is an alternate drop of Crispy Skinned Barramundi and Lamb Hotpot; both are served with potato and vegetables. Desert is also an alternate drop, and we had Chocolate Jaffa Brownie and Passionfruit cheesecake. Towards the end of the night, billy tea and damper are served.
On Smithy’s Outback stage, you will be entertained with songs and stories from a talented musical performer. The night we attended, Owen Blundell was the performer, and he kept the crowd entertained with a great selection of country songs and character sketches; he also played the spoons and a double guitar.
Enjoy an amazing outback sunset over the Thompson River, then continue the evening with a delicious dinner and an entertaining show.
