Bastion Falls ~ Tasmania.

Bastion Cascades

Bastion Cascades is a lovely series of waterfalls and cascades that flow along Bastion Creek in the Meander State Forest Reserve. The creek flows through unique tree-covered cliffs, and you will have amazing views along your walk.

Meander Forest Reserve is part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area and covers an area of approximately 1,700 hectares. It is only 24 kilometres from Deloraine, nestled in the Great Western Tiers Mountain Range.

There are many great hikes in the Meander State Reserve. The most popular is the challenging hike to Meander Falls. However, the walks to Bastion Cascades, Split Rock Falls, and Shower Cave Falls are slightly less difficult but still beautiful and rewarding.

Bastion Cascades 4 Hours Return - 4 km - Grade 3

The hike to Bastion Cascades is through dense rainforest, over and under fallen trees, and several creek crossings.

You will need to follow the reflective markers on a steady uphill climb as it winds beneath tree ferns, sassafras and towering twisted myrtles.

When you reach a massive rock overhang at Bastion Creek, known as ‘Wave Rock’, a smaller rock needs to be scaled with the help of the supplied rope. (Alternatively, you can walk a bit further along and climb around the rock).

Near Wave Rock, you will see a sign pointing you toward Bastion Cascades; it's about 10 minutes from here.

You can return the way you came, or this track can be walked as part of a circuit encompassing Crowden’s Croft and Stone Hut. This circuit is 5 hours and grade 4 because the trail is steep, rough and hard to follow in places with little directional markers.
